3 Healthy Benefits of Avocado Toast

What is Avocado Toast?

Hi everyone! I recently decided to try avocado toast for the first time. I know, I ‘m a little late to the game but I am glad I finally gave it a try. Avocado toast is a more rich way to enjoy an easy go-to snack on the run. I personally used avocado toast as an upgrade for my breakfast game. While looking at many pinterest recipes and health benefits for eating this, these are the three I think stood out the most.

1. It’s a great snack for weight management

One of the reasons why it’s great for weight management is because it is considered a healthy fat. They help keep you full for longer periods of time and actually feel satisfied after eating. That means less snacking around just to do it. I know because I am terrible at snacking for no reason.

2. Helps with maintaining a healthy heart ❤

It is important to try to maintain a healthy heart to stay healthy. Avocado toast can help due to its healthy fats. It is filled with vitamin K, vitamin C, vitamin C, potassium and folate which is great for lowering blood pressure. Having lower blood pressures can result in a stronger healthier life.

3. They are delicious!

Sometimes eating healthy can be boring. Having avo toast is simple yet so creative. For example, you can have it plain on sourdough toast with some butter. You can also slice it up and put it over sourdough toast with light cheese and add some ”Everything on it” seasoning. Whatever you think of, you can do with this.

This was simple to make, took less than 10 minutes and tasted great!

RECIPES! 🥑

I love to shop for recipes by pictures! I’m a visual person so seeing it will make me want to make it more.

For the avo toast I made:

1 avocado

1 slice of smoked salmon

Handful of cucumbers

Salt, Pepper, Paprika, Everything on it seasoning

2 wedges of lemon

Sourdough toast

I like to mash up my avocado to a nice consistency which is a little chunky and add it to bowl. There I do a pinch of salt, pepper, paprika. Squeeze in the two lemon wedges and stir it up a little more. Then I cut a slice of sourdough and toast the two pieces to where its slightly more crunchy. Once those are done I spread a nice even layer of avocado on the toast, top it with cucumber, then place the smoked salmon on top. After that for the final touch I add the ”everything on it” seasoning. I like to pair it with a coffee or some tea and then I get to enjoy breakfast.

I hope you all enjoy this recipe and some healthy benefits of avocado toast! Give it a try, you might be surprised. 😊

30 Days of Yoga Challenge

What It Taught Me

It took me a little longer than 30 consecutive days to do this challenge, but that’s okay. I actually started it back in March, which was a while ago. Even though it took a couple months, I still accomplished the challenge. There were many times that I thought I should just stop. Mostly because I wasn’t able to do it within 30 days or anything close to it. That has always been something I have struggled with. I felt like I had to do it within that time frame, or it wouldn’t count. I know that may sound funny, or a bit odd, but that’s how I tend to think. This challenge helped shape my way of thinking into something more positive. Something calming and something to look forward to. So what exactly is this 30 Day Challenge you ask…….

This challenge is part of the “Home series” of Yoga With Adriene. Anyone, and everyone, can participate in the routines in her videos. They range from beginner, to fairly advanced techniques. I’ve started off with her beginner videos and have slowly been working my way up. I am still nowhere near being an expert, but I’ve made a lot of progress through this challenge. I saw improvement in my form and flexibility, it also helped to calm my mind. This video above takes you on a journey of strength both physically and mentally.

How I Felt After Each Practice

My yoga days may have been sporadic, but I managed to do the videos in order. Some days I would be in a terrible mood before a video, but I would push myself to do them with the help of Chris and my family. I would set up my little area, turn on the video and focus on my yoga practice for the day. I would try to let go of what happened during the day and why I was feeling the way I was. After the video, my mood and attitude would be on a much lighter and happier spectrum. I started realizing that I can manage my stress and mood, with a little guidance, exercise and breathing. Sometimes.

What I Took Away From This Challenge

More and more I realize that yoga isn’t just different poses, flexibility and breathing exercises. I learned how to bring more positive vibes into my day. I learned that with a little tough love, and added motivation, I can finish something I put my mind to. Always remember, no matter how long it takes you to complete a goal or finish a challenge, if you keep at it, you will get there. This has given me a different perspective on challenges for myself. I will pursue my goals and keep motivating myself to achieve them. Yes, I get little bumps of encouragement along the way and that’s okay. It is awesome when someone gives you a tiny bit of motivation to make you work harder towards your dreams. Don’t forget to show appreciation to those that help motivate you. So stay strong. Stay motivated, you’ve got this. Give it your all and just go for it. 💚

After a busy morning of bringing my cat Solo to the vet, I decided to workout. I started off with my HIIT workout, then walked my pup Rex, did weights with my mom and then finished with Yoga.

I was debating whether or not I wanted to workout because I was feeling less than motivated. To be honest, whenever I feel like this, I try to find any excuse not to work out. Today, I pushed through that. I pushed through the stress and the feeling of not wanting to do anything.I’m glad I did. Doing the workouts, then winding down with the walk and Yoga, I had more energy and felt happier. My mind feels clear and I feel more productive.

If you start to feel that kind of negative energy, do something to occupy your mind. Try working out, reading a book or basking in the some. Do something to fill your body with more positive energy.

What are some of the things you do to clear your mind and bring positive energy into your day?

I have done thirteen days out of fourteen. It’s low impact, quick and effective.

For me, this is a nice Yoga practice after a workout or simply just because. Stretch those muscles and relax.

Savasana

The word means “corpse pose.” I feel like this is one of the more important poses in Yoga. It calms the body down commonly after the practice but, it can also be done in the beginning. Whenever it is time to go into Savasana I clear my mind and focus on the now. How my body feels, how my breathing is and how my mind is. Down below is a more in depth definition and a little “how to” do the pose. Relax your minds and your soul. 💚

Healthy Posture

Sometimes our bodies all need a break. A little extra stretching and mindfulness on how we use our bodies. Remember to always take care of your body, because it takes care of you.

A Little Bit of San Antonio

When the weekends come up, we all automatically go into adventurer exploration mode. During the week we focus on our school, our studies and our duties that we have to do in the military. This past weekend though we explored a little bit more of San Antonio. The weekend of February 22nd-23rd was also Mardi Gras which we had completely forgotten about. Who knew The Riverwalk could get down and party? Well that weekend we explored some new yummy food venues and actually walked around the Riverwalk.

The Riverwalk

San Antonio is known for its history. The city has The Alamo, the Riverwalk through the city, Market Square and so much more. The Riverwalk is also named Paseo del Rio and is known for its shops, restaurants and lights that line the winding river through the city. You can enjoy the river any time of the year and either in the day or in the evening.

Found an empty spot for a photo.

One of the many stairways that lead back up to street level.

During festivals on the Riverwalk, be aware that it becomes extremely busy. Even though there are many restaurants that line the river there will be a wait. Don’t let that deter you from visiting though, it is definitely a must see.

Treats of the Weekend

When you go out to a new city I think it is always fun to try out new places that you never have been to before. So none of the same chain restaurants or anything, be adventurous. We managed to find a few good spots to try. For breakfast our first stop was a place called First Watch. It was delicious, everything was healthy and delicious. The portions were well sized and they had fresh squeezed orange juice which is always a favorite of mine. They have many healthy options and also have vegetarian and vegan options available.

After having a breakfast/brunch we walked about the city, did some errands and then came across a frozen yogurt place. We had all been craving something sweet and knew we had to try this place out. It was called Orange Leaf. Its similar to my frozen yogurt place i’m used to called Sweet Frog back in Virginia, so I had to see if this place was worth it. It was. This little sweet treat shop was adorable. From its art on its wall to the different flavors of frozen yogurt! We were all glad we stumbled upon it. It even had a map of where their visitors had come from. I of course joined and added my pin to California.

Last but not least, dinner was amazing. We happened by this place because the restaurant we originally wanted had a two hour wait! We were not going to wait that long…ever. So we walked around and found a restaurant called Kona Grill. It was FANTASTIC. The menu was diverse so it fit all our cravings. The prices were decent and the service phenomenal. Everything we ordered came out delicious and we can not wait to go back.

This was one of many weekends that I am able to explore. I can’t wait to see what else Texas has to offer! Here is to more adventures, more food to eat and more memories to make!
