30 Days of Yoga Challenge

What It Taught Me

It took me a little longer than 30 consecutive days to do this challenge, but that’s okay. I actually started it back in March, which was a while ago. Even though it took a couple months, I still accomplished the challenge. There were many times that I thought I should just stop. Mostly because I wasn’t able to do it within 30 days or anything close to it. That has always been something I have struggled with. I felt like I had to do it within that time frame, or it wouldn’t count. I know that may sound funny, or a bit odd, but that’s how I tend to think. This challenge helped shape my way of thinking into something more positive. Something calming and something to look forward to. So what exactly is this 30 Day Challenge you ask…….

This challenge is part of the “Home series” of Yoga With Adriene. Anyone, and everyone, can participate in the routines in her videos. They range from beginner, to fairly advanced techniques. I’ve started off with her beginner videos and have slowly been working my way up. I am still nowhere near being an expert, but I’ve made a lot of progress through this challenge. I saw improvement in my form and flexibility, it also helped to calm my mind. This video above takes you on a journey of strength both physically and mentally.

How I Felt After Each Practice

My yoga days may have been sporadic, but I managed to do the videos in order. Some days I would be in a terrible mood before a video, but I would push myself to do them with the help of Chris and my family. I would set up my little area, turn on the video and focus on my yoga practice for the day. I would try to let go of what happened during the day and why I was feeling the way I was. After the video, my mood and attitude would be on a much lighter and happier spectrum. I started realizing that I can manage my stress and mood, with a little guidance, exercise and breathing. Sometimes.

What I Took Away From This Challenge

More and more I realize that yoga isn’t just different poses, flexibility and breathing exercises. I learned how to bring more positive vibes into my day. I learned that with a little tough love, and added motivation, I can finish something I put my mind to. Always remember, no matter how long it takes you to complete a goal or finish a challenge, if you keep at it, you will get there. This has given me a different perspective on challenges for myself. I will pursue my goals and keep motivating myself to achieve them. Yes, I get little bumps of encouragement along the way and that’s okay. It is awesome when someone gives you a tiny bit of motivation to make you work harder towards your dreams. Don’t forget to show appreciation to those that help motivate you. So stay strong. Stay motivated, you’ve got this. Give it your all and just go for it. 💚

Yoga – Day 3

Today I did Day 3 with “Yoga with Adriene.” This practice was focused on awakening your body and your soul. I enjoyed it today, my body needed that wake up. With school, stress and the rainy weather I’ve been sluggish. Having these little boosts of energy really feel like they help out. Try it out for yourself!

Self Care Sunday

Being safe by staying indoors all day can be taxing. Whether you are essential personnel or not, we all play a crucial part in keeping everyone safe. With that being said, don’t let yourself fall off. Don’t forget about taking care of your mind, body and soul. Doing and seeing the same thing everyday, can start having the groundhog effect. It happened to me before on deployment and I felt it happening now at school. Today I mustered up the energy to treat myself to a “self care Sunday.” I needed that little routine to bring me out of my funk. So let me share with you what I’m doing today.

Routine for the Day

First and foremost I made myself a coffee. I can not crawl out of bed without making myself some coffee or tea. I just used the Donut Shop K-Cups with a little cream and sugar. The stronger the better. After my coffee, I got a start on my meal prepping for the week. While that was conveniently cooking in the Instapot, I decided to do a hair mask in the shower. Basically a hair mask is a deep conditioning for your hair. You can do all kinds of hair masks, it just depends on what result you want. I decided on trying out Marc Anthony Strictly Curls. I never really do these things so I thought it would be fun to do. I left it in for 10 minutes after shampooing my hair and my hair came out so soft! The curls seemed to be brought back to life and it wasn’t as frizzy. Since being here in school I may have just let my hair care go a little. I wear it up in a bun all day, every day, so it definitely needed this treatment. After that, I decided that I need to get back into my Yoga. So I am starting a new 30 day at home Yoga routine called, “Yoga with Adriene.” I have been doing her videos for over a year now and I love them. They help you find your balance and bring back a calmness over your mind and body. Today I did “Day-1 Recognize.” After the exercise I felt like all the stress was released. I definitely feel like my soul was realigned and calmed. Finding that inner peace is so important in general, but especially in a time when there is so much stress around. Next it was time to eat. I have a bad habit of not eating enough and its something I’m working on. So today I decided on something quick, easy and healthy. It’s smoothie time! To me there’s nothing better than making a fresh berry smoothie the way you like it. So while I drink my smoothie it’s time to write. I love to write, I love sharing my day and my ideas with you. It brings out my creativeness and I genuinely enjoy it. After writing, the rest of the day I will spend playing video games, maybe do some laundry, eat dinner and just relax. Being able to give yourself a day off from everything is so important. It allows yourself to rest and recharge for the upcoming weeks. Try not to fall into the monotonous rhythm, it impacts you more than you may think. Stay safe and stay healthy! Try something new everyday, maybe start a new routine. Down below I listed the Yoga routine, some music I’m listening to today and some video games I will be playing. Have fun my lovelies!
